1st Port Royal Race…1st top 10 for the Rookie 410 Driver
Posted March 29, 2010

Derek Sell had a debut to remember Saturday night as the Sell Racing 410 made their initial appearance at the “ Speed Palace ” of Port Royal Speedway.  With Keith Kauffman in the Sell pit providing guidance to both Derek and Dad the season and racing night started of well and ended even better.  Derek was faced with a heavy field of experienced PA Posse and World of Outlaw contenders such as Lance Dewese, Greg Hodnett, Daryn Pittman, Tyler Walter and Todd Shafer.  Derek held his own as the rookie 16 year old and held on for a 5th place finish in his heat race.  For the main event of 22 cars we tightened the car up quite a bit as we saw the track drying out over the night.  With a full load of fuel the 900hp beast was tough to handle in the beginning laps.  Upon taking the green flag Derek dropped back a few positions only to learn later that his tear offs were stuck and that he couldn’t see.  Quite a scary deal at over 100mph.  Once Derek removed the entire stack of tear offs he settled into a ryhtm and look like he had many years around this track.  As the race went on Derek picked up several positions and finally came home with a very respectable 9th place finish in his first 410 main event.  This has the entire team really pumped up and since then we have decided to add Williams Grove to our schedule for this coming weekend.  As of now we plan to run WG and Port this weekend so check back soon for another update.  Check out my Facebook page “Derek Sell Fan Club” and leave us a note.

SELL GETS FIRST 410 START!
Posted March 23, 2010

FIRST ONE UNDER THE BELT!!!...Derek debuted his 410 sprint car at a track he had never been on before as he took to Williams Grove Speedway in their season opener last Friday night.  With this being Derek’s first race in a 410 and first time on the track we decided to tag the field in our heat race.  Derek finished the heat race without incident and picked up speed each lap.  As we lined up for the consolation race the nerves were still on edge but Derek once again settled into a nice rhythm and completed the B Main just one spot out of a transfer position.  All in all we were happy with the results and gained the valuable experience we were hoping for.  On Saturday we met up with Keith Kauffman at Port Royal for some valuable Bug Day laps.  This is a really fast race track and Derek adapted to it very quickly with Keith’s guidance.  We really look forward to this coming Saturday as we debut at Port Royal with the 410 gang up there. We really enjoyed our time at Williams Grove and are exploring opportunities to get an additional engine so that we can run two times a week and make The Grove part of our regular schedule.  Time will tell if we can make that happen or not.  We really like that track and the thousands of fans it attracts. Please visit our new sponsor Maxout Strength Studio at www.maxoutstudio.com.  Maxout is developing Derek into a stronger and more fit athlete as he handles these 410 race cars.  Derek says it is already paying off in the short time he has been involved.  Bring it!!!

SELL GETS A NEW COACH FOR 2010!
Posted February 10, 2010
Sell Racing is very fortunate to announce that we have teamed up with one of the nations most successful and Central PA's favorite drivers "The Man from Mifflintown" Keith Kauffman. Keith has agreed to take young Derek Sell under his wing and provide coaching and mentoring at our weekly racing events with Sell Racing. We were very excited when Keith agreed to come on board and the time we have spent with him thus far has been both rewarding and educational. As previously published we will begin the season at Port Royal on a weekly basis and venture out to time trial and World of Outlaw shows as we all become more comfortable in the 410 ranks. We are starting the year with two complete Maxim cars and Don Ott power. We are eager to get started with this learning process and I'm confident that with Keith's coaching we will accelerate the learning curve. We plan on starting our season on March 14th at Port Royal . Please stop by and say hello.
